The concerts will be performed with actor Nidal Qannari and will take place in the Bretagne region.

Noted as the youngest major orchestra in France, the Orchestre de Bretagne proudly serves its local and regional communities while enjoying increasing recognition in leading European and North American festivals and concert halls (Vienna Konzerthaus, London’s Queen Elisabeth Hall, New York’s Lincoln Center in the “great performers” series, Tokyo Forum in the context of the « Folle Journée au Japon » festival, Salle Pleyel, Salle Gaveau and Maison de Radio France in Paris, etc.).

The concert features the Newman and Oltman Guitar Duo and the Orchestra from the Opéra de Reims in a programme entitled « From the New World ».

Askren will conduct the World Premiere of Concierto Buenos Aires, the latest concerto composed by internationally renowned composer, arranger and master of the bandoneon Daniel Binelli.

Elizabeth ASKREN was invited to fill in as guest conductor for a commercial recording session with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  The session was recorded at AIR Studios in London and featured La Concorde, Gabon’s national anthem, re-orchestrated by Frédéric Gassita, who infused the work with jazz and folk-inspired elements.  The project was managed by Retentive Sound Agency in Paris.

New World in the City of Lights

Elizabeth Askren will conduct a series of concerts with Orchestre Note et Bien in a program of Bruch’s violin concerto no. 1 and Dvorak’s Symphony no. 9 (« New World »).  The concert features solo violonist Paul Brie, member of the Solistes Francais and a Nouveaux Virtuoses artist.

Orchestre Note et Bien is one of Paris’ leading community orchestras, noted for its strong ties to charitable organisations which benefit from the proceeds of each concert.

1st AMERICAN WINS FRANCE’S ADAMI CONDUCTING PRIZE

Elizabeth Askren, conductor, wins Adami’s “Talents Chef d’Orchestre” prize

A native New Yorker based in Paris for over a decade, conductor Elizabeth Askren has been awarded the 2010 «Talents Chefs d’Orchestre» prize, attributed by France’s organization, Adami (Administration des Droits des Artistes et Musiciens Interprètes).
The prize recognizes conductors under 35 who are confirmed professionals and residents of France. Selected by an international jury, the three laureates will be featured in a public showcase concert, to which agents, festival and orchestra Directors, the media and other members of the artistic community are invited.
A graduate of the Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, and Bard’s Conductor’s Institute, Ms. Askren came to Paris in 1998 to study piano and conducting as a Woolley scholar of the Fondation des Etats-Unis. Working with leading period and modern instrument ensembles in Europe and North America, she has established a reputation on both sides of the Atlantic as a passionate conductor at home in both symphonic and operatic
repertoire.
Ms. Askren will conduct the Orchestre Colonne in concert at the Salle Gaveau on October 12th, 2010 at 8pm.  She will perform Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony in a program also featuring works by Mozart and Beethoven.
Ms. Askren is honored to be the first American to receive this prize.
